Federal Popular Initiative

« For the Recognition of the State of Palestine »

The Swiss citizens, signatories of this popular initiative, request that the Swiss Confederation officially recognize the State of Palestine. This is an act of justice, equal treatment, diplomatic consistency, and commitment to human rights. The Swiss Confederation must actively commit itself to a sovereign and independent Palestinian state, and work for peace, dignity, and the self‑determination of the Palestinian people. The recognition of the State of Palestine, in application of United Nations resolutions, including Security Council Resolution 242, is in line with international law, the Charter of the United Nations, and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. It paves the way for a just and lasting peace in the Middle East.
